Wasted Calories, Wasted Time
A healthy life consists of high quality food and high quality content
Proverbs 14:15
We've all heard the saying “You are what you eat”.
However, in an age of mass information consumption, this takes on a bigger meaning than just what ends up in your grocery cart.
What you put into your body and mind will manifest itself in how you grow. Whether you only watch junk TV shows and read pop sugar clickbait articles, or read your bible and listen to stimulating podcasts, it can affect who you turn into as a person. And while it’s not the only factor in your development, I’d argue it’s a large one.
In all of the available mediums, you are exposed to behaviors, culture, beliefs, and ideas. It's these things that you process and internalize into your own ideals, and eventually actions.
As today's content and culture becomes more politically and socially active, as well as ideologically driven, understanding what you’re consuming is more important than ever. And when the platforms of content delivery are built with the purpose of getting you to consume evermore content, controlling how much you ingest is more difficult than ever.
Taking responsibility for your content diet is just as important as controlling your actual diet for a happy, healthy life.
Endeavor
Thinking is important but contemplation without action is a waste.
Baby Step:
Read one book this month. You don’t have to give up anything. Just add reading one book to your monthly to-do list.
Balanced Step
Take the baby step and give yourself a daily limit for social media. Make some extra time in your day, Give yourself a healthy time limit for a week and see how it goes. I suggest no more than half an hour but make sure you are able to stick to your goal.
Leap of Faith
Complete a week of digital fast. This isn’t an easy endeavor. No social media or scrolling forums. No movies, shows or Youtube. Get outside. Read a book. Hang out with your friends. This one is harder than you think but the payoff is worth the effort
